Thanks for checking out my wiki.
I've started this page to help inform and educate my friends and family about my newest endeavor. I've applied, interviewed and have been selected to travel to London as a Winant and Clayton Volunteer.
These are the first few questions I get when I tell folks………
"What is a Winant and Clayton Volunteer?"
It is a volunteer exchange program between NY and London. As far as what I'll be doing, volunteers are placed mainly in the East End of London with community workers on projects serving people of all ages and with a variety of needs: community settlement clubs for the elderly, immigrant groups, at-risk teenagers or children; drop-in centers for people with HIV/AIDS; psychiatric rehabilitation centers; day care programs for inner city children, or environmental projects.

"Why would you do that?"
First off, I am thoroughly excited to have the opportunity. As many of you know I travel for a living. This year, However, I intend to travel for Giving. I have felt a calling to help others and through this program I can satiate that calling as well as my wonder lust.
"When are you going?"
The program runs from June 10th - Aug 16th 2009.
"Do you get paid?"
No, its a volunteer abroad program. And since I'm a broad who likes to Volunteer,
I figure I'll do it with out any pay. (Hence, the giving)
"What will you be doing?"
I've been placed with an organization called Providence Row. Providence Row is a charity working to provide support and hope to homeless people in the City of London. Helping people out of homelessness is about much more than providing somewhere to live. It’s about addressing why people became homeless in the first place: undeveloped life skills, poor coping strategies, a lack of education, or low confidence and well-being caused by negative life experiences. As a Winant Clayton volunteer this summer I will be working on the first set of needs – helping clients find ways into meaningful occupation or training, helping them build their self-esteem, and develop life-skills.

How you can help.
I am truly excited to have been giving this opportunity to be able to help those less fortunate. I will be leaving for London in a couple days and I have been working diligently to help fund my endeavors. However, I am still in need of donations. I have placed a button below, which if you feel so inclined, leads you to a page where you can donate to help me reach the monetary goal I will need to purchase plane tickets, supplies, tools for my placement and other assorted traveling needs. I would be forever grateful if you were to assist me so that I may assist others.

positive thoughts towards a good outcome.
